Everyday life happens within the context of non- places with unique characteristics and singular manipulations to which space and time are susceptible in videogames, thereby expanding on the player's field of everyday reality in particular ways. My central argument is that spatiotemporal experiences in videogames occur within the context of everyday life, rather than residing within the realm of virtual reality, a simulation that evokes the construction of a space of representation that can be related -as if it were real, effecting a separation from the -really real. I draw on theories from art, architecture, geography and anthropology in order to understand how the spatiotemporal elements in videogames relate to contemporary approaches to space and time where the ideas of non- places and everyday life are paramount. ![]() From the designer's monitor to the player's screen, spatiotemporal elements shape the player's experience of videogame spaces, expanding on her perceptions of everyday life. This thesis explores the concepts of space and time in videogames. Besides philosophy it is indispensable to incorporate theories and methods of research fields like urbanism as well as architectural history and theory for the purpose of a coherent reasoning. The momentum of the staged city as spatial (often vertical) challenge and its systems of meaning in context of motion patterns, courses of action and game mechanics will be presented. Therefore, and this is the central assumption of this paper, said ambiguous play patterns are caused by multistable cityscapes. So in oscillating between two different modes of perception players tilt between correlating and complementary gameplay styles that – by navigating urban game spaces – also are interfering with the widely known prospect-refuge theory which is one of the most used gameplay patterns in computer games. The paper focuses on two theoretical complexes by Deleuze/Guattari and by de Certeau, which both consist of dichotomous aspects. In order to analyze and reveal the importance of buildings and cityscapes and thus the spatiotemporal appropriation in context of open world game spaces a transdisciplinary approach is needed. Through this analysis, the dissertation proposes there is much to be gained by considering how this playful movement offers augmented perspective of earlier work on urban circulation, specifically within Edinburgh, and highlights the importance of a critique of play and games within Cultural Studies. This dissertation investigates how Edinburgh – whilst still in use by the general public – is co-opted by the game to host a scenario in which participants move through the city in a different, more playful, method than everyday motion in an urban setting. These varied theorists are drawn into this dissertation on playful movement in the city, incorporating case studies of the use of the City of Edinburgh in 20 for the “zombie chase game” 2.8 Hours Later. Anthropologists, sociologists and cultural critics have considered the value and importance of play – Johann Huizinga and Roger Caillois foremost, but also more recently Mary Flanagan and Brian Sutton-Smith, and urban theorists such as Quentin Stevens look at architecture as being playful and lending a “ludic” quality to city space. Previous cultural theorists and philosophers who considered urban movement – including Henri Lefebvre, Guy Debord, Michel de Certeau and Walter Benjamin – studied the city as a site of production and consumption, analysed rhythms of capital and the everyday, and considered dualisms in movement such as structure/freedom and constraint/wandering. ![]() ![]() This dissertation considers the use of the city as a site for “playful” movement, and how this form of circulation may yield insight into existing theories around motion within the city. ![]() 1/2/2024 0 Comments Curved breeze block wall![]() Not only is this wall a classic and timeless feature, it also adds an impressive sense of texture and warmth. 1/1/2024 0 Comments Torn dew claw dog![]() ![]() My daily motivation is to help first-time dog owners be better prepared from the first day your new puppy enters your home. (And just because I love animals so much, I also worked at a Zoo for awhile!) I’ve been sharing my best ideas with others by blogging full-time since 1998 (the same year that Google started… and before the days of Facebook and YouTube). Professionally, I worked at a vet and have several friends who are veterinarians - whom I consult with regularly. I’ve always trained my own dogs and help friends train theirs, as well. I’m a lifelong dog owner - currently have 2 mixed breed Golden Aussies that we found abandoned on the side of the road as puppies. I like to help Dog Parents find unique ways to do things that will save time & money - so I write about “outside the box” Dog Tips and Dog Hacks that most wouldn’t think of. And studies have shown that removal of the dewclaw (particularly the attached “non-floppy” kind) can lead to increased incidence of arthritis in the carpus (wrist) because the dewclaw helps with stabilization of that joint. My dog uses his to stabilize a bone for chewing. Dogs also use their dewclaws as “thumbs”. You probably won’t see this in a lumbering Newf, but you may in a Border Collie doing agility. It can actually contact the ground and help with traction when a zooming dog is “cornering”. The faster the breed, the more important the dewclaw. Dog breeds that commonly have dew claws, or even double dew claws.Check out these tips for taking care of and treating a dog’s torn toenail. Here’s the perspective of the show dog community regarding dog dew claw removal. This video shows one important way that dogs use their dew claws. Here’s an excellent photo tutorial showing how to trim your dog’s toenails (especially when they’re black, and it’s hard to see the “quick”), which type of nail trimmer is best for dogs, and some expert advice about dog dew claws. If a dew claw is ever allowed to grow long, the quick will grow proportionately - making it more and more difficult to keep that toenail short.A dog dew claw is higher up on the paw - so it won’t get any wear in the normal course of walking.Since we chose to leave Tenor’s dew claws intact, the vet said that we’d have to pay extra attention to keeping the toenails on the dewclaws trimmed. For the most part, dogs seem oblivious to the stitches that result from the spay/neuter, but they can’t seem to stop licking at the bandages which must remain on their paws for weeks from the dew claw removal. When done at the same time as the spay/neuter, some dog owners have indicated that the recuperation period for the dew claw removal seems to take longer and be more stressful for the dog than the spay/neuter surgery part of the surgery. NOTE: Dew claw removal involves removing the entire toe, not just the claw, and the cost may increase if the toe is firmly attached. That way, there is only one time going under the anesthesia, only one period of time for recovery, only one visit to the vet, and only one office charge. Most dog owners who opt to have their dog’s dew claws removed have it done at the same time as the dog’s spay or neuter surgery. In this case, you should talk with your vet about whether or not to have the dewclaw(s) removed. If the dew claws on your dog’s front or rear paws seem to easily get caught on things, then they could easily rip off - which would be very painful for your dog. This usually happens when reaching through a chain link fence - or something similar - where the dew claw gets caught. Not to mention the fact that dogs with dew claws who also like to dig a lot will sometimes irritate the dew claw, or even break the dew claw bone (not all dew claws have bones). They may also “dangle” or “hang”, or just get in the way during the normal course of playing and walking. Rest assured that most dogs with dew claws do just fine without having to remove the dewclaws.īut sometimes the dew claws are not “properly attached”. Our Great Pyrenees/Black Lab mix has dew claws on both his front and back paws - though he doesn’t have the “double dew claws” (2 claws stemming from one single area) on his hind paws as is typically standard for the Pyrenees breed. But it’s somewhat common in certain breeds - including Great Pyrenees dogs. (Ours does.)ĭew claws on the back paws is fairly rare for dogs in general. Some dogs also have dew claws on their back paws. The majority of dogs with dew claws have them on their front paws. ![]() 1/1/2024 0 Comments 2021 cadillac crossover![]() ![]() Heavy lies the crown for the Escalade, because although loved until the last model year, it’s monarchy had stretched as far as it could go and its subjects would’ve eventually opted out to go towards the newer Lincoln Navigator or German-made SUVs. The only thing to watch out for is to validate if the roads you plan on travelling on are compatible with Super Cruise. Although our tester wasn’t blessed by this specific technological advancement, it might be something to consider if you’re planning to get on the road for long distances. The Escalade is fitted with the Super Cruise semi-autonomous technology, which has been gaining a considerable amount of traction in GM’s catalogue in the last year. This predictability is strongly enhanced by the Magnetic Ride Control suspension which acts like an oracle – not only scrutinizing the road and adapting to provide a better ride for occupants, but also gauging the driver’s inputs to react accordingly in a given situation.
